The day of your international move is an experience you will never forget. It is both exciting and stressful at the same time. Preparing for an international move is all about organization and having the right mindset. Stay positive and try to prepare as much as possible in advance.
1. Wake Up Early
Moving overseas can be stressful enough, but it is even more stressful if you accidentally oversleep. Everything happens fast on moving days, so make sure you have enough time to get everything done. Don’t forget to set the alarm clock!
2. Check Your Airline Ticket and Passport
Confirm your flight time and make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months. Place your ticket and passport in a safe place where you won’t forget them.
3. Weigh Your Luggage
Check the airline’s weight restrictions and how many pieces of luggage they allow. Weigh your bags and make sure they meet the airline’s limits.
4. Complete Your Checklist
Go through your checklist one at a time and make sure you complete everything. A checklist will help you finish everything quickly and efficiently.
5. Take a Quick Walk
Do a final walk around your neighborhood and take some pictures of the places you will miss. This is the end of one story, but the beginning of another.
6. Drive to the Airport
Airlines usually recommend that you arrive at the airport at least 2-3 hours early for international flights. Leave a little early just in case there is an unexpected problem such as a traffic jam.
7. Check-In Early
The lines are often much shorter if you check-in early for your flight. The staff will probably also be more relaxed and accommodating to any questions or requests that you have.
8. Say Goodbye to Friends and Family
Your friends and family may come to the airport to say goodbye to you. Airport goodbyes can be emotional, but they tend to be even more emotional when moving overseas. Remind everyone that you aren’t leaving forever and that you will come and visit again soon.
9. Grab a Coffee
This is the perfect time to reflect on everything you’ve accomplished. You completed each task successfully and are ready for your international move. Congratulate yourself for a good job done.
10. Board the Flight
You are finally traveling overseas. Hop on the plane and start your adventure!
